"Whither the hand goes, the glance follows, Whither the glances lead, the mind follows, Whither the mind goes, there the mood follows, Whither the mood goes, the essence is created."
- Abhinaya Darpana
The aim of the course is to study the ancient Indian art form of Kathak dance with a structured and systematic approach. The practical elements of the course improve the dancer’s proficiency in the form, whereas the theoretical elements will enhance one’s understanding, knowledge and appreciation. The course is designed to be a journey for dancers that will allow them to grow physically, intellectually and spiritually.
PHYSICALLY: BODY – Using mind/body coordination to enable hands and feet to move at exactly the same time. Learning and understanding to own each movement through the union of the entire body with rhythm (laya and taal) and abhinaya (expressions).
INTELLECTUALLY: MIND - Using the mind to think and analyse the motive of each movement to achieve depth and coordination.
SPIRITUALLY: SOUL – Spirit is required to engage and portray emotion into the dance movements to be able to express more deeply.
Nikita's devised style of dance is based on an ancient and sacred form of classical Indian dance known as Kathak, which enhances one’s awareness of their body, posture, balance and alignment using breath. The syllabus of her dance class is devoted to awakening (or designed to awaken) one’s senses and purifying the body, mind and spirit.
